Abstract:

Landscape Ecology deals with the study of spatial patterns to individuate ecological processes shaping landscapes. In particular, spatial modeling, broadly related to Spatial Ecology, may represent a powerful tool for studying diversity at different ecological levels, from the genetic to the taxonomic to the landscape level. For instance, the spatial diversity at the landscape level (estimated by e.g. the spectral variability of an area) has been related to species community diversity from local (intra-community alpha-diversity) to regional (inter-community beta-diversity) scales. Meanwhile, some seminal papers have recently introduced Landscape Genetics as a new discipline coupling Landscape Ecology and genetic diversity of populations. In this seminar I will disentangle the potential of spatial modeling techniques for estimating genetic diversity at different spatial scales

Duccio Rocchini has recently started his research activity at FEM in the project ACE-SAP.
